A Few More Recipes

The cooler weather always makes me want to cook a bit more.  So I found myself making quiche for an office gathering and I thought I'd share it with you....

Just click on the title for a full size recipe card which you can download and print up.

I sliced some roasted red peppers and placed them on the bottom before filling.  Since I was short on time I used the ones from a jar and it was truely delicious!

How I Squandered/Spent My Summer Vacation

Yesterday there was an interesting article in the Wall Street Journal - "How I Spent/Squandered My Summer Vacation". They interviewed a bunch of well known folks in June about goals for the summer and then again to see how they did.  Much to my relief, it turns out that many of them are just like...well, normal people who just didn't get around to it ( whatever it was for them).  Of course, this being the Wall Street Journal the goals were pretty lofty, like taking strokes off golf games or reading Einstein: His Life and Universe. No mention of Harry Potter, I noticed but at 675 pages Einstein is pretty much rivals the new Harry Potter which is 784 pages. Several had home improvement projects that they ended up hiring others to do.  I'm glad to think that I'm not the only bit-off-more-than-I-can-chew person!

So what about me?  Well, I had this goal of digiscrapping a bunch of recipe cards and I've actually done a whole bunch. Of course, this is one of those infinitely expanding projects since I keep finding new recipes I like.  But the majority of my tried and true recipes are now digiscrapped cards. Not yet printed but that's another story.  Painting the house trim on the lower level where I can reach and we had water damage didn't get done yet.  But I did get the two broken doors replaced - Genio did an awesome job.  And I have yet to fix up the last of the garden beds but I did keep up with the garden.  And that paid off - I have a bumper crop of peppers and eggplants.  As for sqaundering, I do admit to lots of let's just go swimming days...but isn't that what summer is for?

So how about you?

Tailgate Party!

This is the perfect time of the year for a Tailgate Party and you don't even have to be a football fan.  In fact you don't have to leave your house, or worry about calories or points to join in....

Hummie is hosting a DSD Tailgate Party from now until Digital Scrapbooking Day on November 3rd.  You can find all the details on her blog by clicking here.  Come join!  Oh and did I mention there are prizes....???  No?  Well, there are!  So get going!

The theme is Heritage layouts so I'm going to share a few of mine here...

This one is of the three women in my family with the name Eileen - my grandmother, mom and I.  I scanned the photo which I found in my very first photo album - a bit grainy for sure but precious nonetheless. I had recieved a camera for Christmas ( a Kodak Instamatic I believe) and my dad helped me develop these photos in his darkroom.  I scanned the album cover too - it's in the lower left corner.

And a little anniversary layout of DH and I that I did for our 24th anniversary last year...

Garden Recipes (plus Pancakes)

I don't know about you but my garden is providing us with lots of veggies right now...well, maybe a bit too many of some like eggplant.  Who knew they would do so well this year?  So a few recipes to deal with the bountiful harvest...

Click the title to download the full sized recipe card so you can print it.

Playground Project Update

This summer my senior girl scout troop has been working on their Gold Award project which is sprucing up an old wooden playground in town - lots of sanding, priming, painting, painting and even more painting.  Today they spent 8 hours painting and here a few of the lessons learned so far....

  • painting is hard work
  • painting is tedious
  • priming is really really boring and really really necessary but still really really boring
  • town politics are... well, town politics
  • include everyone in every decision or at least try
  • no one ever knows what a Gold Award is (it's like an Eagle Scout Award)
  • painting takes a lot more time than it looks
  • brushes do really have to be cleaned right away  :-)

Some progress photos...

Here, before painting, is the now yellow car...lots of discussion of what this is (maybe it's an airplane with those tire wings?) and what color to paint.

Finally yellow was decided on - could be a yellow plane or a taxi cab or a school bus...

Here's the Rules sign - it still needs a coat or two of polyurethane but the lettering is done and took forever!

The Dog Slide - or maybe it is a leopard...at least that's what the kids playing at the park said it is...

Dog_slide_2

Today's biggest project was the entrance sign.  It is wood and carved so that blue background has thin carved lines so it took a really long time to paint - the paint would just get sucked in and they had to keep going over and over the same area.  But it is going to look amazing after it is done!

I can't believe it is September!

Yikes!  Where did the summer go?  I'm not sure if it is the dry weather or just the season but already there are leaves falling in our yard!

I have a couple of digital freebie recipe cards to share.  You can download the full size version by clicking on the title.  Then just print them out or have them printed as 4x6 inch photos and pop into your recipe box.
