State Field Hockey Champs!

They won!!   So now they are State Field Hockey Champs in Class M/S and have had an undefeated season. Needless to say, one very happy team.  It's the first time in the history of the school that they have won the state championship in field hockey!  Way to go girls!!

Teen's team is in the Field Hockey State Finals!

Score

They won the State Class M/S Semi-Finals for Field Hockey!  Woo hoo - we're in the state finals!

P1050685

An amazing game - tied 2 to 2 at the end so they went into overtime.  For field hockey that means a 15 minute period with only 7 players on the field instead of the usual 10.  As you can see above, they scored the winning goal shortly after the overtime began.

It's supposed to be a beautiful day tomorrow for the finals - seasonable cool and sunny - a perfect day for Field Hockey!

High Speed Fall

Up and down I-93 at (approximately) 65 mph every day.  The trees are gorgeous and my camera is at hand.  A few shots from the car looked interesting when I downloaded them, so the next days I took a few more, playing with the manual settings.

Here’s my travelogue – picturelogue – of New Hampshire’s fall foliage at at 65 mph:

Details:

My camera is Panasonic DMC-FZ5

Manual setting with  ISO of 100 and I used  two diferent settings - an exposure of 1/20 and aperture of  f/7.1 or exposure 1/40 with aperture of  f/4.5

If you don’t have a manual setting, try zooming in which will create the blur nicely or use the macro or close-up mode.  At 65 mph it should create an cool blur.

And please shoot as a passenger....

Field Hockey Quarter Finals

Fence

The sign on the fence says it all...Teen does love Field Hockey.  This year the varsity is undefeated so now we start the NH State championshops.

Sunday...you couldn't ask for a more perfect day...

Filed

and it was a tight game.  Even those on the bench look tense, huddled not with cold ( it was 70) but anxious anticipation.

Tense

Waitng

And they won!  So next it's the semi finals under the lights on Thursday.  I can't wait!

Blog Carnival

With all the Harvest Festivals and County Fairs going on, this seems a perfect time for a Blog Carnival!

What is a Blog Carnival?  Good question.  Much like a country fair (but virtual), it is a collection of fun things to do and sites to visit which all center around a theme.  For this one, the MC is energetic digiscrapper Hummie who has an amazing blog of information.  I'm hosting it this week and it is on digital scrapbooking, of course! And there are loads of great articles!

Idiotic Mistakes...

I love the title of this post Idiotic Mistakes to Avoid When You're Learning Digital Photography  which I found on the Digital Scrapbooking Day website.   Anna Wiliams mentions some good ones and...well...I have to admit I have done some of those too...

Here's one ....water or liquid of any kind and digital cameras don't mix well.  Don't store your water bottle and camera in the same bag.

How about you?  Any good things we can pass on so we can all be better photographers?  I'd love to here them....

Big Day for Teen

Tuesday was a big day for all of us - Teen made National Honor Society.  At her school, the names are announced as assembly and it's all a big secret until that day.  Of course, the moment the seniors spot their parents, they know but at least it's a secret until then!  It's not the best photo of her but I think it says it all!

Why There's No National in Digital Scrapbooking Day

A couple of people have asked me this - why didn't you name it National Digital Scrapbooking Day?  Hmmm...good question...

To be honest, I'm afraid it wasn't a conscious decision - at least not on my part.  But now that I think of it, it was a great idea.  To give credit where credit is most definitely due, Digital Scrapbooking Day was the brainchild of Angie Pedersen who is co-coordinating the day with me. At any rate, we didn't really discuss calling it anything but DSD - or maybe she had figured all this out way before I did....:-)

There is, of course, a National Scrapbooking Day (NSD) which has been around for a long time.  Since the advent of digital, NSD has been celebrated in both the paper and digital world.  So not having national in our name does cut down on the confusion.

Then there is the international angle. Michelle Thompson, a digital scrapper and author of the enormously popular Scrapability blog pointed out that she was happy that we left national out of the name.  After all, digital knows no geographic bounds and there are digiscrappers all over the world. Hopefully, the lack of the word national really tells it like it is - this is an international community and we have many (on line) friends all over the world.  How cool is that?  Okay..so maybe this is a little corny ...but I just think it amazing that we can bridge borders with digital scrapbooking. And that, hopefully, DSD is part of that.
