Super Bowl Sunday Snacks

This is Patriots country around here and you can bet there will be lots of people watching the Super Bowl.  And lots of eating, of course.  I'm not much of a football fan myself, though my office is full of regular watchers. Personally I'm looking forward to watching Tom Petty at halftime!

Either way here are some good things to munch while you cheer. And you don't have to feel guilty because they are from Weight Watchers.  Plus they are a snap to make too which is always a bonus.  Just click on the title to get the full sized download which you can print.

Oh and if you are looking for Tuesday's recipes I have redone the links ( sorry about that!) for

Chicken Parmigiana and Many Mushroom Soup

Both of these recipes are from Weight Watchers and both are wonderful.  The Many Mushroom Soup was wonderful with other types of mushrooms substituted - I couldn't locate cremini mushrooms locally so I used bella and it was still good.  It does not freeze very well unfortunately since the mushrooms get...well...mushy.

Studio Friday - Legacy

This is a weighty subject, for sure. Legacy is the Studio Friday topic this week ( or rather last week since i am a few days late in posting this.)

"What work(s)/successes/accomplishments would you love to leave behind for the world? What legacy would you like to or are already about to create?"

I can honestly say I haven't thought about this for ages.  When I was in high school, my AP English teacher had us write our own obituaries; something my parents found absolutely horrifying but I approached it with the naivety of an 18 year old.  Mostly it was a variation of what I want to be when I grow up and my plans then centered around archeology and anthropology with some art thrown in for good measure.  My how far from that I have come!

My legacy if I am to leave one art-wise would be that I would like my DDs to have some appreciation of art for art's sake.  And that it is okay to do your own art, whatever shape and form it takes. To my way of thinking, drawing, doodling, sewing, decorating a cake, choosing posters, planting a garden, knitting, scrapbooking and decorating your space are all art.  All require the use of color and line and creativity.  I would hope that they can find the time and place in their life to make their own art, express themselves creatively and enjoy it.

Pound Cake and Soup

You know the combination of Pound Cake and Spinach and Pea Soup might make a good meal.  Just kidding!  At least you wouldn't feel so guilty since this soup is really healthy.

The Pound Cake recipe is from my mom and was a staple in our house when I was a kid.  There always seemed to be one under a plastic dome on the counter in the kitchen.  With four kids, it didn't last long which is probably why my mom loved this recipe!  It is very fast and oh so 1970.  But very moist and it freezes really well.

Fish and Stuffing

At our house, DH has been on a low carb diet (and lost a lot of weight) so finding a stuffing recipe was sort of tricky.  I found Wild Rice Stuffing in a Betty Crocker cookbook (surprise!)and, even better, everyone likes it!  The Striped Sea Bass Recipe is from Martha Stewart and can be used with any oily fish like salmon which is ususally less expensive and easier to find than sea bass. And the stuffing makes a nice side dish with it or use it for stuffing chicken or turkey.

Free [Digital] Stuff

The digital scrapbooking world abounds in freebies. And it seems like there are new ones every day.  One of the problems is that it is hard to locate freebies - some are on blogs, some are in stores or on websites.  And some are for a limited time - and you would hate to miss those!  So...how do you keep track of them all?  I'd love to hear your tricks but here are a few of mine.

But first, some freebie philosophy.  Free samples are wonderful for us digiscrapppers who aren't designers.  They are a great way to try out a new designer to see if you like her stuff.  For designers, they are a way to present their designs to a large audience and attract new customers. Or to test out a new idea. After all, who doesn't love a freebie?  And don't forget to leave a comment for the designer!

So now a challenge for you - become a customer.  Take a look through your stash - do you have lots of freebies from one designer?  Or maybe there is a designer's freebies you always look forward to finding?  Or maybe there is a designer you just found?  Take a moment to show your support by buying something from that designer.  You don't have to be a big spender - every little bit helps!

Now for some freebie resources.  One really easy way to keep track of these resources is to make a playlist in Bloglines.  That way you can easily see when the blog has been updated. And now - in no particular order....

Digi - Free

Hummie's World - Freebies

Ikea Goddess

Amy W's Scrap a Lot

Shabby Princess

Digi Scrap Depot

plus most stores offer freebies too.

Happy Scrapping!

Studio Friday - Goals

Goals_card_2 This week Studio Friday is on goals...

"Staying on track with New Years resolutions, goals and dreams? Or maybe you are about to set some goals for new projects? How are things going so far?"

"What 3 things can you do today to further your goals and dreams?" - Robyn

So not to be boring but some of my goals for the new year are fitness.  I don't do well with ones that require that I do something daily - my schedule needs to be more flexible than that and it makes it too easy to fall off the wagon and then give up. So I thought I might do better if I had something to track my progress and of course, something pretty is more appealing than a word document or scraps of paper. LOL

So here's the idea - the card has space for all sorts of things.  I've been wearing a pedometer to keep track of steps so now I can record them.  Plus there is space for cardio and notes when I squeeze in strength stuff or want to record my weight (ugh!).  I print these out for each week as 4x6 cards on card stock and punch a hole so I can put them on a ring.  I think I'll change them every season just for fun!  Oh and the cool thing is that I can change things too - like add categories like WW points to whatever.

Come to think of it...you could do this for lots of things....

Happy Friday!!

New 2008 Recipes

A couple of days ago I listed the Top Ten Recipes for 2007.  And now....let's begin for 2008!  I already posted a few last week - New Beginnings - and now some more!  My DD#1 claims that the Bread Pudding recipe "will change your life"....ummm...I'm not sure about that.  But my MIL says that this is exactly what her mother made so while it may change your life, the recipe itself hasn't changed in a long time!

The Chocolate Pretzels should be made using the old fashioned thick pretzels - the thin ones break.  And if you use the thick sticks, you can have lots of fun making shapes - just dip them and arrange into shapes like stars before they harden.
