New Endeavor

Nobody starts a creative endeavor without a certain amount of fear; the key is to learn how to keep free floating fears from paralyzing you before you’ve begun.

Mom's Recipes

Many of you know that my mother died recently.  The whole family gathered for a memorial service last weekend - it was great to see everyone but too bad the occasion was sad.

As always this occasions call for food and I found myself thinking ot the kinds of things my mom cooked.  A sort of What Would Mom Make? type of thing.  I have a number of her recipes scraped already so I thought I would share them with all of you.

Given the era and the fact that there were four of us kids in five years [yes, you read that right]  many of her recipes focused on speed and she was the master of shortcuts.  Also the master [or is that mistress] of making things ahead of time.  Oh and we had a huge freezer growing up which was always well stocked - my mom was the freezer queen and knew to freeze everything!  Anyway, a few of our favorites...

Mom's Yogurt Pie

This one you freeze and let in thaw out a bit before serving.  It works well with a store bought graham crust too.

Graduation

One down and one to go - Teen 1 graduated from high school. The weather was perfect, the ceremony short, sweet but not too mushy and she was so happy.  She'll be off to Brandeis University soon enough but for now she's enjoying the freedom and sense of accomplishment which she so deserves.

Another Sad Day

Sadly my mother has died.  She actually died last week but this week has been too crazy to post anything.  It's been a bad year for us - my mother in law died in February and now my mother.  Oddly enough they both died of the same disease, lung cancer.  I am hoping that the silver lining will be that my daughters will not smoke having lost both their grandmothers to the consquences of smoking.
