There's a book in the condo we are renting called "Town at the End of the Road" which is the history of Waterville Valley. It's definitely is a town at the end of the road - Rt 49 E ends here. But it is unique in other ways - it's in the middle of the White Mountain National Forest. With the ski runs on a mountain surrounded by pristine national , the scenery on each run is gorgeous. And save the ski runs and base lodge, there is no development at the mountain so all the housing is located in the town of Waterville Valley (pop 305), a short distance down the road.
In the center is the Town Square - a combination of restaurants and shops all built around a central gathering area facing a small pond. Picturesque and very conducive to gatherings. This summer is seems the place to hang out with your dog and a cup of coffee. Plus they have all sorts of entertainment in the square.
One of the great things is that you can walk everywhere in town since all the condos buildings are all nestled around the Square. Since my DDs are 18 and 13 they can walk over themselves to grab a snack or hang out. At home we live far away from town so there's no place to walk to - I mean there is the park but not much else. They just love the freedom and I must admit we do too!
