Boston Bloggers

Some one did a count and apparently Boston has the highest number of bloggers in the USA.  At least that's what I heard on the radio.  Seems odd that it would beat out places like New York and San Francisco.  Way to go Beantown Bloggers!

The only digiscrapper I know who is for sure a Boston scrapper is Mary Canavan but I'm sure there are more.  I'm not sure I qualify although Boston is my home town and I live just 40 minutes north.  Somehow that state line changes everything - New Hampshire is quite different from Massachusetts.  Must be the water.

Now there a list of Granite State bloggers...ah-yuh, I'm there!

Re-organizing with Typepad Pages

If you are a Typepad user, have you heard about Typepad Pages? When I first heard about these I must admit I just didn't quite 'get it'.  The examples they used didn't seem to relate to me.  Maybe my Yankee we-can-just-make-do upbringing has something to do with it....Then, one day, about two weeks ago I finally figured out how I could use them.   And I found that Typepad Pages are incredibly useful and easy.

One of the things about maintaining a blog that primarily provides information or serves as a reference is that you end up adding or correcting a lot.  For instance, I often add tutorials and I want everyone to be able to find them.  If I just listed them in a post, they would get lost after a few days, buried in the Archives - I've had this blog since Nov of 2005 and there are roughly 750 posts!  So my solution until yesterday was to first write the tutorial as a post, then take the link for that tutorial and add it to a post called Tutorials which was a list of links to all the tutorial posts. [ Have I lost you yet? ]  Then that was listed in a TypeList called Table of Contents which made it easy for readers to find them.  Each time I posted a tutorial, I had to find that one Tutorials post and add a link which meant filtering my posts and then finding How to Do Stuff post or doing a search - both of which took a fair amount of time. Not certainly the worst thing in the world but just kind of a pain. The same thing with updating the A to Z Lists for Designers, Digiscrapping Sites and Fonts.  So of course, since it was so tedious, I wasn't very good about updating them.  :-P

My eureka moment came when I started the Recipe Rounds - why not put it on it's own Typepad Page?   I thought I'd try it as an experiment.  And to give credit where credit is due - Angie Pedersen's post about Typepad Pages encouraged it.   Wow -that was a good idea!  Recipe Rounds gets it's very own page which makes it really really easy to edit and add stuff (like all the cooking kit resources I've added this week).  Rather than hunting around the list of posts, I can simply open the list of pages and select the one I want. No searching around. Brilliant!

So last night I moved all the posts for tutorials and other resources that were in my old TypeList - my old table of contents - so that each has its own Page.   And I then changed the name of the Pages section to Table of Contents (if you dont change it, Typepad calls it Pages).  Lastly I got rid of the TypeList  and moved the new Table of Contents into that spot.  Simple!  And the very best part?  All I had to do to move the posts to pages was to copy and paste!!  I mean, what could be simpler?  Those long lists of all the designers and their links could simply be copied and pasted into the new Page. I think it took all of ten minutes!

Functionally it is the same and I don't think a casual blog reader would really notice...but for me, this has made editing things like the ever changing list of designers much much easier.  It gives me a stable page to plunk my resources and saves me a lot of time.  Thank you Typepad!  Want the full scoop on how to add Pages?

If you were a designer how would you use Typepad Pages?  Right now designers post their promos in a post so why not have a page called Promotions?  It would be easy to edit, easy for us blog readers to find and wouldn't get lost in all the other posts.  Or a page for Challenges or Contests???

Oh and I've started to update the A to Z Designer List and the A to Z Digiscrapping Websites list too and even thought it is much easier, it's going to take awhile....and if you notice I'm missing someone [ like maybe you or your favorite designer] please let me know at seswhite@gmail.com   Thanks!!

Scrap-A-Faire

Tri1793

The vendors got sneak peaks yesterday and I was blown away! Scrap-A-Faire is amazing and adorable and there is a wealth of information for scrapbookers and any one who wants to learn about scrapbooking.

The booths are all virtual and interactive which is really cool.  The booth designs are particularly cute!  Each booth had areas for you to shop, pick up information, watch demos, chat - all the things you would normally do at a show but you don't have to leave your house! Given the weather recently that is a very good thing!

Both digital and paper scrapbooking is covered so there is something for everyone. Just check out the list of Exhibitors. And I know a few like Scrapdish didn't make the list on the website so you never know who you might run into there.

Register now because it starts tomorrow!!   And don't forget to stop by the FxFoto booth and say hello!

Calling All Designers

Well, it's time once again to update the digital scrapbooking kits that come with FxFoto Creative Edition and we need your help since none of us are designers!  (At least not yet!)  I'm posting this today so my faithful readers can get a head-start.  And if you would like to be added to our Designer Call email list please let me know at susan.white@triscape.com - I promise no spam, no list selling or sharing and I only use it for calls.
Here's the deal -
First a bit about FxFoto Creative - this is our full featured photo editing and layout program which comes with digital kits on a CD to let users start digiscrapping right away.  With a low learning curve and features equal to some very well known software, FxFoto Creative is a great for digital scrapbooking.  There is lots of more info on our website www.FxFoto.com
So I am looking for kits which cover many of the events users might want to scrap - things like Baby, Boy, Girl, Holiday, School, Guy, Wedding/Love, Heritage and kits that could over the four seasons. Sort of general purpose kits.  We just want a variety so users can try digiscrapping, get hooked and then go buy your kits. :-)    If you're not sure your kits fits, just send it anyway!
What do you get?
  • A yearly license fee ( yup, you get paid)
  • credit within FxFoto - each folder has the kit name and your credits
  • Credit and links on the partners page of our website
  • each kit is marked for home and personal use only
  • credit whenever possible when your kit is used for tutorials, booth examples, demos etc

What we need:

  • the kits must be 300 dpi
  • the kits do not need to be exclusive - you may continue to sell them
  • you must own the copyright and sign a two year agreement
  • files must be jpeg or png ( no psd file please)
  • willing to let us use your kits to create LOs used for promotional purposes like ads and booth displays
  • deadline is March 15. 2007
Sound good? Look through your designs and select a few of your very best. Here is how to send them -
How to submit (deadline March 15, 2007)
  • send me an email at susan.white@triscape.com
  • attach a kit preview (not the whole kit).  Please make it no larger than 100K
  • send a separate email for each kit please - this just makes it easier for me :-)
  • include a link to the store/website where the kit is being sold
  • include your name, email address and phone number

Would you like to be on our Designer Call email list?  Those on the list received an email from me earlier this week and I'd be happy to add you to the list.  Just email me at susan.white@triscape.com and I'll add you.  I promise no spam, no list selling or sharing and I only use it for calls.

I can't wait to see your stuff! Feel free to email me if you have any questions!

Scrap-A-Faire

I'm barely home from CHA when I'm prepping for the next big show.....Scrap-A-Faire     It runs February 28 to March 4. Only this one is very different - it's virtual!  How cool is that?   For you, no driving, no parking, no babysitters and you can shop in your jammies!  For me, nothing to ship, nothing to print and the best part...I can run my booth wearing my fuzzy slippers!    :-)

I got to check out a sample booth yesterday so I could create mine.  I can't share the link but I can tell you it was very cool!  Exhibitors get to choose a booth style from 8 possible ones - there was lots of debate about this and Tween and Teen even got to vote.  And you choose a greeter which is an avatar - even more debate about her! Mine doesn't look anything like me.  LOL

Scrap-A-Faire is just like a real show so you can go from booth to booth.  Each booth has click-able areas so you can learn about products, see presentations, watch videos and check out everything.  There is even chatting in the booth so you can ask questions.  I got to see the Scrapbooks Etc booth which has a cool video with Melissa Inman.  It looks like they are going to have a behind the scenes video too which should be fun.

The Scrap-A-Faire will also have a big lounge for everyone to stop by - bring you favorite beverage and munchies - and everyone at the show can chat with each other.  There's a big gallery too plus classes.

You can register to attend and it only costs $5.00 which is probably less than you'd pay for parking at a live show.  Two Peas in a Bucket is offering free admission with a $25 purchase from their store so that might be worth checking out!  You can take a tour on the Scrap-A-Faire site too.  See you there!

Podcast!

I'm on the air!  Or on your iPod!

I was interviewed yesterday by Karlana Kulseth of Mommy Podcast which was loads of fun!  She is an avid digital scrapbooker who is really interested in getting everyone to try it. Karlana has a whole series of podcasts on digital scrapbooking with more planned for the future.  I did a demonstration for her last week and she loved it which was very cool! So she interviewed me yesterday and you can find it here Interview

You don't need an iPod to hear the show. It will play on your computer too!

I must admit it is weird to hear myself talking!!  LOL

So that's a bit of a summary....

drum roll.....new web site

The new and improved FxFoto website went live today!  You can check it out at www.FxFoto.com

We streamlined the text a whole lot and organized it a bit differently.  Now, rather than a long list of things FxFoto does, we have four sections - Organize, Edit, Enhance and Layout.  Under each of those we list the features and give lots of examples.  Of course, if you are here at my blog, there is a fairly good chance you found this through the website so you probably have already seen it - LOL!   But if not take a look at www.FxFoto.com

You will also find user and reviewer comments scattered throughout the website.  And we still have a long and quite complete list of comments under Reviews and Awards.  If you would like to add some of your own, feel free to email me at seswhite@gmail.com .  We love hearing from you!

We also added more layouts to the gallery.  A new User Gallery can be found under forums.  Now there is a place I could really use your help.  I would love to have some more LO to post in there.  Here is what I need -

  • your name
  • your name as you wish it to appear on the site - initials, first or whole name
  • LO title
  • the name of the kits you used and the designer name of each kit (so we can give credit to them too)  You can use any kit!
  • the name of the fonts you used.

You can send it to me as an attachment - all I need is 640 pixels which is the medium size in FxFoto. I would really love to fill that gallery so please please send me stuff at seswhite@gmail.com .  Thanks!!!  :-)

Fellow FxFoto-er

Hmmm....not sure that is a real word but if you use FxFoto for digiscrapping you need to check out this blog - Mary .  Find the My Scrapbook link on the left side and take a look!  She has done some amazing LOs using FxFoto!  Once I can get back to scrapping more I am going to have to scraplift some of these.  I love the printer boxes and the First Dance Recital.
