No, not quite yet. I have a love-hate relationship with the end of the school year. On the one hand I look forward to things slowing down and not following schedules. How delightful to be able to have dinner late or watch a movie on a school night. No homework to do for them or me. Warm sunny days and a lake nearby. ahhh...summer....
On the other hand there is the infinite time problem - a Teen who sleeps until noon but a Tween who is up at 7am, a day that seems like it goes on forever but nothing gets done, and kids who want to 'do something' but mom who has work to do. Of course, part of the problem is that I work from home - it was easier in some ways when I had to go to the office/hospital - the hours were pre-determined and that was that. Of course, everyone in my office used to complain that working during the summer felt like we were being punished and it was made worse by the fact that our office had no windows. Still, it had it's advantages.
And then, of course, there is the end of the year chaos of activities. Here is a list of what we will be doing for the next two weeks:
- Softball Playoffs
- Finals
- Greek-Rome day
- GS picnic
- Talent Show
- Dance recital (with two rehearsals on different days),
- Field Day
- GS Court of Honor
- Advisory Lunch
- Teacher Appreciation Day
- Strawberry Festival (dance team is dancing)
- BBQ (two of these at different schools)
- GS Bridging
- the school play "The Hobbit" where Tween has a major part.
- Parent Teacher conferences (only one set of these, thank goodness)
- Confirmation (last year's class helps out with this year's class)
We've already ended religious school with awards and an Ice Cream Social (they are smart and end in May). Plus, of course, at least two birthday parties for Tween and I know there will be some social thing for Teen that she will have to go to.... it does feel good to check things off but this is going to be crazily busy! I am so paranoid that I will miss something - forget to show up and my DD will be the only one without a parent there or forget I was supposed to bring ____________( fill in the blank). *sigh* Let's hope not! LOL
